The Social Project

Group of handsThis joint project is a site about an online community addressing responsibility. Responsibilities come in many forms and many levels but the entire list can be distilled down to two: personal responsibility AND social responsibility. We believe that one does not exist without the other because they are two sides of the same virtue.

Goals

It is our goal here to share and learn ways to help us better live by this virtue. Even though social responsibility and its aim to alleviate the lot of those in need might seem disparate and almost counter to the tenets of personal responsibility and its somewhat self-serving purpose, we believe that one leads to the other. Being personally responsible with your own assets and resources is the key to achieving self-sufficiency. But the independence that comes from not having to worry about money is not the final step of personal development. We think it is only the beginning.

Help Ourselves and Help Others

Social responsibility, even though it is equally important, is ultimately reliant on everyone being accountable at the personal level. But once the immediate needs of the self are met, we think that that is a great starting point to attempt effecting change in the world at large. We judge that, with a group of financially independent individuals contributing time and money to NPO’s and other charities, philanthropy as a movement has a better chance of continuing uninterrupted. And the work (whether it be the eradication of disease or elimination of poverty or the end of human trafficking) has to go as smoothly as possible because for every dollar not donated or loaned out, someone in a developing nation is going without a day’s wage and perhaps an entire family is in danger of going fully destitute.

We All Want To Do Good

We know that the duty to help others is innate in most people and by far the most common reason why they do not do more is because they themselves are under duress financially but we posit that we should use that inherent call to duty as motivation to shore up our assets and attain self-sufficiency sooner. By doing so, we are able to help sooner and attend to our social responsibilities more consistently and positively.

Money As A Tool

Many talk about money and how they plan on leaving a legacy when they die. We disagree. We should talk about money so that we may be able to live a life of legacy. That is our duty. Therein lies our responsibility. Therein lies our virtue.
