It is a sad human fact that for every minute that some one is trying to make money and just simply survive, there are others trying to steal and forcibly take hard earned money from honest and sometimes unknowing people. The predators lurk, stalk and usually pick out the weakest of the herd before jumping into action. By the time the prey knows that an attack is taking place, it is usually too late. Much too late.

Every day. That is how often I have to deal with my eyesight being as bad as a bat’s. Every day when I wake up I have to squint just to be able to make a somewhat credible guess at what the time is on the clock hanging at the far wall. Every day I have to rely on my glasses to see correctly anything beyond arm’s reach. It is a hassle I have learned to live with but it also has had some surprising benefits.

Kids like shiny things
When we were taking our son to Gymboree, one of his favorite times during the class was when the teacher would start blowing bubbles in the air. The teacher would go around the circle of babies and blow a flock of bubbles above each of their heads and all the babies reacted positively towards them. Their reactions ranged from mild amusement to actual all-encompassing fascination (my son). He chased those around the room trying to catch them but just ended up popping each and everyone he touched.

and when I finally decided bestow upon my son the same loyalty the other night, I noticed that there were some financial lessons in there for grown ups too.

The guy who was in front of me was wearing expensive brand name clothing. His hooded sweatshirt had the logo of a huge rhino and so did his back jeans pocket. Actually, I think his shoes had the same logo too. He looked like he had just stepped out of a music video. I half wondered if there was a Bugatti Veyron parked in the supermarket parking lot.

According to mythology, Prometheus stole fire from the gods and brought it down to earth to benefit mankind. Essentially he brought down a gift that can cook our food, heat our homes, and give us light. Human progress probably would not have been possible without it. But the very same gift is also capable of destroying everything progress creates. If we misuse the gift whether in cooking or in heating, it can lead to disastrous results.
